The Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Section of the Czech Surgical Society offers internships in HPB surgery to international trainee surgeons. Currently internships are available in the University Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady in Prague, but other hospitals will be offering them too.
The Department of Surgery of the University Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady in Prague is a high volume hepatopancreatobiliary surgery centre. A wide variety of HPB procedures are performed including laparoscopic and open pancreatic and liver resections, pancreatic resections with vascular reconstructions and biliary tract procedures for a wide variety of benign and malignant indications.
Duration of the internship will be typically one month but can be shorter or longer depending on individual requirements. Participants will be involved in the diagnostics and management of hepatobiliary diseases. They will be expected to attend daily ward rounds; assist and observe surgical procedures; take part in postoperative care of patients in the standard ward and the intensive care unit, and attend lectures and seminars within the department. Participants will also have opportunities for individual consultations with experienced HPB surgeons.
