The Czech HPB Surgery Section is one of the oldest sections of the Czech Surgical Society. It was founded in 1993 by prof. MUDr. Miroslav Ryska, CSc. The section published the HPB Bulletin from 1993 to 2008, which aimed to improve postgraduate education. The section organized numerous events, which became very popular and frequently attended, the most popular of which was the symposium at Loket Castle. In the last few years, the HPB Surgery Section has been managed by MUDr. Jaroslav Pantoflíček, Ph.D.
Last year, the activities of the Czech HPB Surgery Section were restored and the section currently has a total of 62 members. Elections were held for the term of office of 2021-2024 and a new committee was elected. The election results are available here
The goal of the Czech HPB Surgery Section is create a professional platform for all physicians who deal with HPB diseases. The section does this through the organization of professional symposia, congresses and specialization courses on HPB topics. The Czech HPB Surgery Section strives to improve postgraduate education in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, to increase the proportion of physicians in the Czech Republic receiving international certification in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery and to become an integral chapter of the European Hepatopancreatobiliary Association.
The condition of membership in the HPB Surgery Section is membership in the Czech Surgical Society of Jan Evangelista Purkyně.
